Malaysian comfort food, taken seriously.

Nasi lemak with 48-hour beef rendang. Char kuey teow wok-fried to order. Bao buns steamed fresh every 20 minutes. We don't reimagine Malaysian food — we respect it enough to do it right.

From TTDI coffee shop to Bangsar.

I was a corporate lawyer for 11 years. Every Sunday, I'd cook for friends — big pots of rendang, mountains of nasi lemak — and the kitchen was the only place I felt like myself. In 2019, I left law and opened Bao Kitchen as a weekend pop-up in a TTDI coffee shop.

Three pop-ups, one pandemic, and countless late nights later, we opened our permanent Bangsar kitchen. The menu has changed but the deal hasn't: we take Malaysian flavours seriously, source locally, and never cut corners on the wok.

"My grandmother made the best rendang in Kuching. I've spent 6 years trying to get close. Bao Kitchen is the only restaurant that's come close."
